I keep reading the argument that torturing suspects has kept the US safe from attacks since 9/11, because of all the remarkable intel they’ve gathered this way. But here’s the thing: The Bush administration was given advance warning of 9/11, and ignored it. How was that intel gathered? Did they use torture? I’m just wondering out loud, because if not, doesn’t that sort of prove that the intelligence apparatus was working pretty well and the only fuck-ups were sitting in the Oval Office?

The Poetry of Cary Tennis

#1

This is written just upon
arising. That may be another reason.
The
stress, you know,

of large sums of money.
Yesterday was Many Forms Day,

like going into the Army.

We made tea with
tea bags
and tried not to
laugh.

Like, it's only
the mystery of existence,
and don't worry, I have
devices.
(But I do have to
get up in the morning
and go to the
guillotine. Just
warning you. Sorry.)

And finally, the words
I long to hear spoken to him,

given his predilection:
You feel me, Cuz?

You
feel
me?

Yes, I feel you, Cuz,
she'll say. I feel you

loud
and
clear.
