1-2-6 was a Norwegian rock band from the 1960s. Their song, Graveyard Paradise, was a massive hit in 1967, and was the runner-up when one of Norway’s tabloid asked readers to vote for the best Norwegian song of all time in 1987. I was only eleven in 1987, and barely aware of the contemporary charts, let alone this sort of thing. I only learned about the band this week when reading that their debut is to be released on CD for the first time ever. Anyway, a great song that deserves to be remembered.
The Divine Comedy has been going for 30 years now. I’ve loved them for about 18 of those, and am looking forward to seeing them for the third time in April, provided Covid-19 doesn’t throw yet another spanner in the works. They (well, him – it’s really just Neil Hannon) are extremely consistent, and their new single, The Best Mistakes, is no exception. Grand stuff!

Countries do not become corrupt because of a single leader or party. They become corrupt because of an ecosystem where it is agreed amongst enough people that the principles of discipline and equity required to maintain systemic moral fitness are too high cost for them.
Dune: chapter 2 has just been given the go-ahead. No huge surprise, I suppose, but I’m glad to see it’ll be finished. Having said that, I mus admit I wasn’t left with the sort of “I need to see the next one NOW just pump it into my veins” feeling I got from The Fellowship of the Ring the first three times I saw it in the theatre. Oh well.
